Smart Hospital Appointment & Queue Management is a full-stack MERN web application built to eliminate overcrowded hospital waiting rooms, reduce patient wait times, and replace manual paper tokens with a streamlined digital queue.

💡 Why This Project?

Traditional outpatient departments (OPD) face constant waiting room bottlenecks and patient disputes over queue turns. This application provides a modern, transparent solution: patients can book specific consultation slots, receive sequential daily token numbers, and track their position in the queue remotely from their smartphones.

🌟 Key Role Features

👤 Patient Module:

1. Browse doctors by specialization (Cardiology, Pediatrics, General Medicine, etc.), experience, and consultation fees.
2. Book available 30-minute consultation slots with past-date and slot-conflict prevention.
3. Automatically receive structured daily tokens (e.g. A-014).
4. Live queue tracker displaying: Current Token: A-010 | Your Token: A-014 | Patients Before You: 4.
5. View appointment history and cancel upcoming bookings with one click.

👨‍⚕️ Doctor Module:

1. View today's consultation schedule and active queue counters (Waiting, Completed, Total).
2. One-click queue advancement: Click [ 📢 Call Next Patient ] to complete the previous consultation and call the next waiting token.
3. Mark patients as Completed, No-Show, or Cancelled.

🛠️ Administrator Module:

1. Overview metrics: Active Doctors, Registered Patients, Today's Bookings, Waiting Queue, and Completed Consultations.
2. Add new specialists with consulting hours and room numbers, edit details, or deactivate profiles.
3. Audit all registered patients and hospital bookings.

1. Frontend: React 18, React Router v6, Redux Toolkit for authentication session state, Native Fetch API.
2. Styling: 100% Pure Vanilla CSS with responsive media queries for desktop, tablet, and mobile.
3. Backend: Node.js & Express.js REST API with CORS and JSON body parsing.
4. Database: MongoDB Atlas with Mongoose 8 schema validation and compound indexing.
5. Security: Stateless JSON Web Tokens (JWT) & bcrypt password encryption.

📦 Quick Setup & Installation

1. Extract the project ZIP package.
2. Configure your MONGO_URI and JWT_SECRET in server/.env.
3. Run npm run seed in server to populate demo doctors, admin, and live queue.
4. Run npm start in server (Port 5005).
5. Run npm start in client (Port 3000).
